Frequently asked questions
What is the Augmented Diary?
The Augmented Diary is a physical journal that lets you go beyond writing and drawing on its pages: using your compatible iPhone or iPad, you can attach digital memories—such as photos and videos— to your entries. These virtual elements stay linked to the pages you choose and can be revealed anytime in the future by simply revisiting them through your device. It’s a new way to preserve moments and experiences—both on paper and in augmented reality.
How can I add virtual content to it?
Using your compatible iPhone or iPad, simply use the stock camera app and point towards the page you want to add content to. Your device will recognize the unique symbol on the top-right of the page and will display a button to access the Augmented Diary experience. Once inside, you will be able to see the virtual content you had previously attached to that page (if any), and you will also have access to the '+' button on the top-right corner of the page to add more virtual content to it.
What devices is it compatible with?
To add and access the virtual content of your Augmented Diary, you will need an AR-compatible iPhone (6s and newer) running iOS 15 or later. You can also use an AR-compatible iPad running iPadOS 15 or later. You can learn more about AR-compatible Apple devices here — scroll to the bottom of the page to see the full list.
Unfortunately, Augmented Diary is not compatible with Android devices.
Is there a maximum number of digital items I can attach?
The Augmented Diary currently has space for up to 50 individual journal entries, to each of which you can attach a maximum of 10 photos/videos. This gives you the ability to attach up to 500 photos/videos to a single Augmented Diary.
Do my virtual memories stay private?
Yes. Only you can reveal the virtual content of your Augmented Diary. Your Augmented Diary comes with a unique code with which you will be able to register the journal as yours. From this moment, only devices logged into your Augmented Diary account will be able to display and modify the digital content of its pages.
Can I use more than one Augmented Diary with the same account?
Your user account stores virtual data attached to the specific pages of the Augmented Diary. When your phone recognizes one of these pages, it displays the appropriate virtual items. As of now, only one model of the Augmented Diary —with only one set of pages— is available, meaning each user account can only hold the virtual contents for one diary. More versions of the Augmented Diary will soon be released so your device can seamlessly recognize and switch between multiple diaries you may own. Unfortunately, in the meantime, you will need to create a different user account to use a second diary.
